This was definitely an epic read. There was a lot of scenery, and sometimes I wanted the author to move on with the story. I loved Meggie's character. I could have done without the last fifth of the book, that dealt mainly with Meggie's ornery daughter.

Whenever The Thorn Birds came on TV, my mom, sister and I all gathered around and watched it, I never knew there was a book first. When I read it, I pictured Richard Chamberlain as the priest. I loved the book , it was great!!
I think there are certain books that you just need to re-read throughout different stages of your life - this is one of them. This book has quite a bit of pride, ambition, sacrifice, consequence, and perhaps some love. I'll likely have a strong book hangover for quite a while now, and definitely won't wait so long before I read this again.
