I thought this was great fun. Ivanhoe himself was a complete cipher but every other character is vivid and interesting. Much less derring-do than I was expecting but much more humor. The historical culture clash of the High Middle Ages makes the period so fascinating, and Scott uses it to great effect (blending Beowulfian Saxons, chivalrous Normans, pseudo-historical portrayals of Richard the Lionheart and Prince John, the fully legendary Robin Hood and his yeoman outlaws, English Jews and Pales

L'ho voluto rileggere in italiano, perché in effetti avevo fatto parecchia fatica che aveva influito sulla mia percezione della storia, che stavolta invece mi sembrava decisamente piú scorrevole. Purtroppo peró, quando hanno cominciato ad apparire i personaggi di Robin Hood, non ho potuto fare a meno di immaginarmeli come i cartoni della Disney o peggio ancora, come quelli del film di Mel Brooks....
