Years ago I hated faulkner (along with woolf and many of the other stream of consciousness writers) but growing older (and hopefully maturing) i've come to appreciate faulkner (and the other writers) and their profound influence on world literature.

I understand there is a lot of controversy about this novel of William Faulkner. It takes place in Mississippi during the 1930's. A family is driving the body of their mother, Addie, in the back of a wagon for 40 miles. What could possibly go wrong with that idea? It is the reaction of each family member and people the family meet on the way which makes this novel a classic. I felt for each person and understood their reactions. At first I struggled a lot, especially trying to figure out who was who and doing what, then of course the language was neither easy nor mine, nonetheless once I "got into the book," I devoured it and still have chills.
