As I Lay Dying is not an easy read, because it is complicated and deep with symbolism, a bit gruesome at times and about the very sad topic of grief. However it is beautifully written, full of flawed and very real characters, and told in a very unique way. This was actually the 1990 hardback Vintage International edition, but I could not find that edition in Goodreads' databases. Originally published by Harrison Smith on October 6, 1930 (per the endnotes), the story of the Bundren family's trek across the Mississippi countryside to bury their wife and mother Addie, the second William Faulkner (1897-1962) novel is said to be one of his more accessible.
