A one star means you don't like the book. This book is not just bad; it is terrible.

It's not as as bad as I thought it would be. Yet it could have been better. There were passages that were very well written, it's a shame that the entire book wasn't as good. I am not sure that Faulkner deserved the Nobel. ...more

As I Lay Dying is not an easy read, because it is complicated and deep with symbolism, a bit gruesome at times and about the very sad topic of grief. However it is beautifully written, full of flawed and very real characters, and told in a very unique way. Faulkner told the story through short chapters each narrated by one of 15 characters, and it gave us a glimpse into the thoughts and views of the various family members.
