I love this book, I love how witty, smart, sassy yet depressing Esther is. I can somehow relates some of her attitude and stories to mine.

The first part of this book I thought that Esther is just an ordinary girl with decent career regardless how smart she is. She's witty, she know how to talk back and she's a smart girl yet that doesn't guarantee her to have a perfect life. She's end up being depressed over her life and ended up in the asylum. I felt this book was just OK, not great. Eerie to think of the way it seems to mirror Plath's short life and the thoughts she must have had herself. It was an easy but bizarre read. The novel is in first person and jumps around from scene to scene and memory to memory but its much easier to follow than Marcel Proust. I'm glad I read it, I feel empathy for Plath and wish she could have come out of the darkness and had more time to raise her family and write more novels but this doesn't come close ...more
