While it is painfully apparent that the book was written in the 1960's about society of the late 1930's, and that race relations at the time of writing were not yet advanced to even our meager modern day standards, and that more development of the black characters and their challenges and points of view were sorely needed and missed . . .

It was very good. I enjoyed it, but the ending seemed abrupt.
