Honest opinion: The narrator for this book was great. If he wasn't, I would have bailed instead of finished the book.

Honest opinion: I hate the manic pixie dream girl trope. It is my least favorite trope. Maybe some girls like Alaska exist, but I'm over the fantasized, perfectly pretty b*tch girl that everyone falls for (because Alaska is rude and unkind). Honest opinion: Miles is a terrible character. He's the male equivalent of a Mary Sue type, where everything just happens to him and there's nothing interesting about him- like, does he even have interests? Seriously, I can't think of anything and I just finished the book. He just seems to pick up everything Alaska puts down. I also hate that he picked up smoking, drinking, and other terrible habits and, by the end of the story, those are just parts of him. Also, he is also a jerk! He describes people as too thin, too muscly, or too chubby. For me, Miles is unrelatable and unmemorable.

I wouldn't ban this and will certainly keep copies of this in my library, but this book wasn't for me. ...more
