I have to confess that I had no desire to read this novel, prior to it becoming a selection for my book club. The synopsis wasn't grabbing me and I'm not into fictionalized accounts of real people's lives. Therefore, I dragged my feet for about a week before picking it up. And then I realized I couldn't put it down!

My book of the month club sent me this book, which I ordinarily would not pick up, and it was great. It told the story of two sisters, Sarah and Nina Grimke, who did actually live, and also the story of a slave, Handful, who was fictionalized.
