I have tried to read this book before and never got very far but this time things have seemed to have clicked and I am already half way through and enjoying it.

The Big Discworld Re-read begins...

And this is where it all began. It took a few books for Pterry to find his voice properly, so this is not one of the best books in the series. It's also a little frenetic, he obviously had a lot of ideas for the new universe and tried to squeeze an awful lot of them into less than 300 pages, leaving it heaving at the seams a little.

More 3.75 stars than a solid 4.

I had only read the Tiffany Aching series from Pratchett’s Discworld books, so was already familiar with the world in which they are set. This, the first in the expansive Discworld series, was a fantastic literary journey throughout the world that sits upon the back of a giant turtle (and four elephants). I’ll readily admit there were times I was a bit confused, or just wondered “What the heck is going on?!?”. Overall, this was a delightful tale.
