This was such a fun little book that I ended up reading on my own, because my son didn't like the fact that there were no pictures. Each Penderwick daughter was unique and precious in her own way. Rosalind, the eldest, is much more mature than her age and acts as mother to her younger sisters. Next we have Skye who is the more adventurous sister and tends to get into trouble with her outspoken and rambunctious ways. Jane is the the third daughter, the dreamer. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating, if I could. I listened to it on audiobook.
This is the first in a series of books about the Penderwicks, 4 sisters and a father and a hound who are intelligent, confident, well-mannered (usually), well-intentioned, kind, and fun. Maybe it is because this audiobook was read by the same actress (I think) that read Savvy, but I see a lot of similarities. The characters have little obsessions, which guide their reading, behavior, discussion, and worldviews. T ...more

Rachel recieved this book for Christmas, she loved it. Steve then read it and he loved it. My turn now.
Finished it. What a lovely little book this was. It reminded me of classic chidlren's literature like The Secret Garden, and Anne of Green Gables. Rachel has already read the next one... I think I will too! ...more
