Real and ultimately heartbreaking. Brewster Place is a run-down street with poorly maintained houses and apartments. The tenants are African-American and the story takes place in the 1980s (cassette players are mentioned). Seven (or 8?) women's stories are conveyed and others walk through their pages, reflecting their lives. Descriptive writing, believable characters and dialogue enrich the story.
