I should state upfront, I usually avoid essays/short stories. There have been a few along the way that have piqued my interest and this was one. I did like the first essay, but moving through the next few, my irritation grew and my reading got slower & slower until it reached a dead stop. I REALLY disliked this book. I have no idea why I bothered to finish it. I loved the one on her job pretending to be a patient for medical students, but I didn't like any of the others. A few were on interesting subjects that I will look into more now, but I found the essays on those confusing. The essay on Morgellons seemed cruel, and I couldn't believe it was in a book with "empathy" on the cover.
