I wanted to love this book. It was on one of my kids' Battle of the Books list sometime in the last few years so it's been on my TBR pile for a while. Winter break baby! Read ALL the things! But... I'm the first to admit that GN isn't my genre of preference, so that already puts me in a weird position to read and review this book. This children's graphic novel is about growing up, being different, fitting in, and finding people who love you no matter what. Cece Bell loses her hearing after an illness as a kid in the 70s. She learns to communicate using a combo of hearing aids and lip reading, but often struggles with the limitations at the time.

What a lovely story! This would be a great read for anyone loves "Wonder" or "Sisters" or "Smiles." The story of our author - who after a bout of meningitis at age 4, becomes mostly deaf. The pictures are charming and her story is uplifting. I loved it.
