I really enjoyed this audiobook. I liked the part at the beginning, which focuses on world-building and Sibling Dex's life as a garden monk. I all-to-easily identified with their career crisis and need to move on to another calling. I fell in love with the idea of having tea monks, as a person to go to when you need them, as a part of a thriving community who understands the need for them, and as a person who might enjoy being a tea monk. I have to give this one a re-read in a year or so. I read 2/3 of it and had to return it to the library. I was not enjoying it as much as I did the other Becky Chambers series, maybe my sights were too high. So I returned it, and a few months later got it back and the final third blew me away. I loved every page
The story opens with a descriptive narrative style that makes it easy to vividly picture everything around you. I love this kind of opening because it drops you so efficiently into the world of the story.
The depiction of life on the moon and the way humanity interacts with the world around them is really well written and interesting to consider. The juxtaposition of humanity and nature is, I'm sure, an intentional contrast that continuously reminds you that maybe people aren't ...more
