What Members Thought
Gods, this was SO GOOD! I love a solarpunk/hopepunk setting, and Becky Chambers is a master. You know when it feels like a book was written specifically FOR YOU? This had that feeling all the way. The questions, the seeking, the doubt, the conversations - I loved, loved, loved it. Don’t be put off by the meandering feel - just jump on the bike and go for the journey. I can’t wait to read more in this series, and so thrilled that there will be more!

This feels very much like the prologue to a long set of "chapter" follow-up-books like this, and it's definitely a fine blended tea, prepped and pressed gently into your hands, to be breathed in, sipped slowly, to let the flavor roll around, and open up just as slowly, too.
It was a good, warm setup for the world of Panga, and Sibling Dex, both who they were and what they were searching for outside of the confines of both Panga & themself. I love ...more

I put this as an option on an assigned reading list for my readers advisory class and about 1/2 of the students chose this title so I thought I would also give it a go. I'm so glad I did.
Sibling Dex decides to change career paths and become a Tea Monk on a planet similar to ours set sometime in the future. It's dystopian, but in a way that imagines a better outcome. Like what if we actually learned from our mistakes and created an entirely new way of being? After many years as a successful Tea M ...more

I have to give this one a re-read in a year or so. I read 2/3 of it and had to return it to the library. I was not enjoying it as much as I did the other Becky Chambers series, maybe my sights were too high. So I returned it, and a few months later got it back and the final third blew me away. So now I don't know if it's a 5 star read (the last third was) or a 3...

I loved every page
The story opens with a descriptive narrative style that makes it easy to vividly picture everything around you. I love this kind of opening because it drops you so efficiently into the world of the story.
The depiction of life on the moon and the way humanity interacts with the world around them is really well written and interesting to consider. The juxtaposition of humanity and nature is, I'm sure, an intentional contrast that continuously reminds you that maybe people aren't ...more

Definitely NOT in my wheelhouse but I thought I’d try it out since it’s so slim. I ended up really enjoying this cozy little fable. Seems like a grown up fairy tale for the modern age. The robots are wilding themselves, away from humankind. There are tea monks!?! And life is pondered, and a journey of sorts takes place enhancing the friendship of Dex (said monk) and their new robot friend, Mosscap. Simply adorable. Meaning of life stuff here!
