Michelle Zauner is incredibly talented. I discovered her band Japanese Breakfast last year. Then, upon hearing rave reviews of Crying with H Mart and realizing it was her book, I decided to delve into it, even though I'm not a big memoir reader. I'm so so glad I did. The writing is beautiful, even breathtaking at times. My mom ate 1/4 cup of nuts every day, no more and no less. She drank two cups of tea from the same mug every day, black in the morning and herbal at night, both with honey. I can't explain why I loved this book as much as I did. But I did! I enjoyed hearing it narrated by the author. I was fully engaged in the storytelling. Having lived in Hawaii for a few years with many Korean friends and connections, I loved hearing more about their culture. And when shopping in Costco the day after finishing the book and serendipitously being offered a sample of kimchi, I savored every taste and texture. :)
