Michelle Zauner is incredibly talented. I discovered her band Japanese Breakfast last year. Then, upon hearing rave reviews of Crying with H Mart and realizing it was her book, I decided to delve into it, even though I'm not a big memoir reader. I'm so so glad I did. I do not generally seek out memoirs that focus on grief - I usually avoid them, in fact. And honestly, the only reason I read this one was to meet a reading challenge. But I must admit, I appreciated a lot about this book. Michelle Zauner does such a beautiful job laying out the complex relationships she had/has with both her parents, obviously focusing mostly on her mother, who unfortunately died when Michelle was just in her mid 20s.
