This memoir is considered YA, but I would also place it in the New Adult category as well. (I recently found out about this NA category - Young Adult is for high schoolers, and New Adult is for the 18-25 age range.) Johnson's essays take us from his childhood through his college experience as a Queer Black man. Some of the essays are really heavy, but as he mentioned, if these things happened to him, they have probably happened to other young people. It's hard to figure out how to wrap up a memo
