I found this book to be very easy to read and if I could give it 4.5 stars, I would. It is almost perfect dystopian book about a life after a pandemic, centering around a pilot. He lives on a small airport, that he and another man defend against intruders. He occasionally visits a Menonnite community nearby but is clearly still finding it hard to adjust to this "wild west" mentality that remains after the national epidemic. I think this is my favorite of the post-apocalyptic novels I've read this year. Or in the past couple of years. I didn't anticipate liking it at all- Bangley is so obvious, the dog so... doggy perfect, and Hig is off weeping through every crisis. And yet. The impossible-ness of the action seemed believably impossible, and I loved Hig, too, by the end.
