I think I started this book with a chip on my shoulder that it wouldn’t be as good as the author’s other books. One of the main characters is a rock star and O was skeptical this would be a Daisy Jones retread. WRONG!
It may have similarities to her other books but the characters have their own stories and the construct of this story taking place in 1 day with histories woven in was completely unique.

Wow. Just wow.
I'll admit, I'm not a historical fiction lover, but I did so love Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones, so that when this came along as BOTM, I jumped on it. And I see now that I might not like that genre, but I love Taylor Jenkins Reid.
This one, this one stuck in deep, the Rivas and their struggles, but also the history it painted, how it moved until it converged together in one swoop. I could insert a ton of surfing metaphors here but that's a bit too on the nose. Nonetheless, if you li ...more

Nina Riva is a gorgeous surfer model and the daughter of one of the most famous singers to come out of the 1950s. Every year she has a wild party at her house in Malibu, even though she, IDK, haaaaates parties? Malibu Rising covers both the day of the party, and the back story of growing up with her siblings and what it was like to be left in the shadows of her father's fame.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is a master of storytelling- her characters feel very real, and you’re instantly drawn into their personalities, drama & complexities. Malibu Rising is no different & will undoubtedly be one of the top summer beach reads. Can easily see this becoming a mini-series or film!

You know a book is good when you wake up early on a Monday morning to finish it. So good, I loved every character, every storyline, every moment of this book. Heartbreaking, funny, sweet and yet full of depth, this book had a great setting and strong family story that kept you cheering for them.TJR does it again!

What a frothy, soapy beach book! I enjoyed the first half. Somehow with all the things that happen in the second half, it still feels anti-climactic. I kept waiting for someone to die because earlier it said it would be the last time they all went surfing together. It's a silly, silly book...and I mostly enjoyed it!
