I love this book. It was heartbreaking and interesting and scandalous. This is the story of the Riva family. Mick Riva, famous singer, his wife June and their children. We go back and forth - seeing the Riva children grow up with June after Mick leaves them again and again. Fast forward many years as we await for the infamous Riva party - a huge blowout out at end of August. I loved how Reid makes these characters so multifaceted. This was my first TJR read. I liked the first half a lot. I was kind of irritated by the second half.
The book jumps back and forth from 1983 to the 60s where we learn about Mick and June and their 4 children. Mick is a famous singer who repeatedly cheats on his wife and eventually leaves her. She is left to raise their 4 kids. This storyline is the basic premise of the first half of the book.
The second half is more focused in August 1983, where Nina (one of the 4 kids) is hosting an annual party ...more
