I'm not gonna lie: this was a tough read. If you look back at my history, I've been reading a lot of fluffy books - simple romances, middle grade or YA/NA books. Although I've been intentionally reading more widely, as far as cultures go, this was way far out of my comfort zone. Between the cities and countries mentioned, the descriptions of architecture and furniture and clothing and cars, and even the assumptions about religion, schooling, and social norms all made for a challenging read. Enjoyable. However, I made the big mistake of listening to this one and the narrator was simply awful. She really was. Despite that, it was a fun story and I think I will read, not listen, to the sequels. Also the materialism of the super rich got on my nerves, but I suppose it was supposed to.
Alamak! If I had taken this book seriously, it would have sickened me. However, I read it in the spirit of fun, treating it as a delightful parody. It was hard to put down. Definitely a trashy beach read.
Funny, delicious, irreverent! Great fun-a perfect summer read! So glad I got to this one before the movie comes out. Can’t wait to see it!
