I LOVE Curtis Sittenfield. This is one of her best novels. The story is about the Bennett family - perhaps they were once "Cinncinatti high society" but have fallen on hard times. Their Tudor house is crumbling, Mom and Dad are broke, three daughters live at home with little to no ambition and the two oldest daughters are surviving and working in New York. The book started strong, with a great updating of Pride & Prejudice for a contemporary era. Once the hate sex started... The book just went downhill from there and became a little trashy. Elizabeth Bennett in this book is too ditzy, irritating and boring compared to her original self. I listened to the audiobook which may have done more harm than good for the Bennett sisters.
