Travelling about on public transport lately has given me lots of listening time. Up to chapter 10 and really enjoying this book.

I really enjoyed listening to Trevor Noah narrate his Autobiography as it gave me an insight into a life I had no experience with as a 6th generation Caucasian Aussie. I am super duper late to the party. I was holding off on reading this as it was chosen for one of my book club titles and I wanted to read it with my group. Aaaaand of course, this is one discussion I will miss due to vacation. Since I had already held off for so long, I decided to read it anyway and I am really glad I did.

I do not read a lot of non-fiction. I actually spend a lot of time avoiding non-fiction because the real world is the balls and I read to escape.

I'm glad I made an exception for this one. Trevor tells his story with the stark, no holds bar honesty that you want to hear, but the humor with it as well. And the love. The love he feels for his mother and his family burns through the entire book. I hope my son loves me that way. I hope I can raise him to be as good a man.

I was expecting more of a biography of how Noah got into comedy and was tapped to head one of the most popular and cutting edge comedy shows ever (shame on me for not reading the inside flap copy), but this was a book full of individual stories from Noah's childhood in South Africa. I listened to the audio version (something I haven't done much of in the past, but will do more in the future), which Noah read himself, and it was funny, touching and smartly written. Highly recommended. Wish I coul ...more
