This book was a selection for book club. I like Trevor Noah but don’t think that I would have read it on my own. I initially didn’t read it because I was supposed to be on a beach this week. Ah, covid 19 had other plans for me.
I really loved his perspective on race coming from South Africa. There is so much nuance to it. I think the biggest take for me was this quote that basically defines privilege.

I absolutely love Trevor Noah. I had been waiting to read this book for some time. It is his story and I am no one to judge. This book is good. I’m really rating it a 3.5. But the end of the book... I cannot reconcile how I feel about it. Understanding but furious. I see a broken woman in his mother, I see her strength. But I am pissed off at the end. I don’t know how to reconcile it. Would I recommend this, yes. But at the same time I wish I would have stayed ignorant about it. Sincerely double
