What a beautiful, heartbreaking book it is :((

I am not a fan of science fiction, but this book is more about humans and humanity instead of fantasy and futuristic theme. I love Charlie Gordon and Algernon and rooted for them throughout the book, even though I know that things will be very sad indeed...

The idea behind this book was interesting - what would happen if an operation could give intelligence to a mentally handicapped person? It even started out decently, and had some heartbreaking moments when Charlie realized the people he thought were his friends had just been laughing at him. But that was the first third of the book, the last two thirds was just droning about really nothing and I questioning why I even stayed with it to the end.
