What a gorgeous book. I was never bored by the narration or pacing, I appreciated (but didn’t love) every character, and although the narration switches between four people, I had no problem keeping them straight. I didn’t know much about this ship, and I really enjoyed learning about it from this fictional account, and then the true information in the back matter of the Kindle edition. Historical fiction can be some of the most heart wrenching stories to read, especially if they are heavily researched. Historical fiction set during the wars are almost too sad to read. Salt to the Sea is such a novel. It is told from multiple points of view and centers around events as it affected children and young adults making this novel stand out among other World War II fiction.
