two million instragram followers while following zero grabbed my attention. that was after her most recent book being the goodreads choice award winner for poetry had grabbed it too.

the best part of this book are the goodreads reviews. so many perplexed and perturbed one star ratings. envious perhaps. they must be very frustrated with the choice awards win. there is a poem about them in this book.

I don't often read poetry, but one of the prompts for the Read Harder challenge is "Read an audiobook of poetry" and I've heard of this one for a long time so I decided to give it a shot.

I liked this better than I thought I would. True, it's incredibly simple in its form, and a lot of its style is just line breaks, but I found that it resonated with me than I expected it to. Though I didn't relate to everything in the book, and I didn't have to balance between two or more cultures growing up, a lot of what she says about love, loss, survival, and healing rang very true for me, thinking about my younger self, at either a personal or societal level, or sometimes both.
