A friend recommended that I watch The Expanse on television. I grew impatient with the show's pacing and wanted more depth in the characters. Within two chapters of this book, I knew I was going to be satisfied. I didn't realize just how much more enjoyable the book would be.

This put me through an emotional wringer! At first it was a bit of a slog, and the detective story didn't really draw me in. But then the overall mystery and the political machinations really got me interested, and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Then it seemed like every time we were closing in on a climax and resolution, there would be a new, more difficult threat or challenge. Space opera crossed with noir sprinkled with idealism and a bit of horror - Leviathan Wakes is a very good read. Adventure, suspense, and I really didn't see where the plot was going - I highly recommend it. Very much looking forward to the next in the series, Caliban's War. ...more
