In this ensemble cast of a book, Clementine and Erika are old "friends" from childhood. Erika had a rough upbringing with a single mom who had some psychological struggles. Clementine (well, really her mom Pam) befriended Erika and the girls became like sisters. No matter where Clementine went, Erika followed, except to orchestra practice. Now as adults, Clementine is happily married to Sam with two gorgeous little girls; Clementine is getting ready for a big cello audition with Sydney Symphony ...more

This was my second time listening to a book by Liane Moriarty, the first being Big Little Lies. Structurally the books were very similar, told through multiple perspectives with flashbacks to a mysterious traumatic event that happened several weeks before the current timeline. Moriarty does a great job hooking you in and making you desperate to know what happened, but the pacing was very drawn out and it got pretty annoying. The framework came together much better in Big Little Lies. Also that o ...more

I was in the mood for a page turner, and this did the trick. I can’t believe I finished it in one day, but I did.

I'm having a hard time rating this book-maybe a 2.5. I didn't like the first half of the book-I had such a hard time picking it up to read that I read two other books before I finished the second half. I loved the second half and felt like it was the topics Moriarty does best. I'm glad I read this book, but it wasn't my favorite Moriarty. ...more

Thank you to Goodreads giveaways and publishers at Flatiron books for providing this ARC.
Release date:July 26 2016

The story begins in the middle. Something terrible has happened as a friendly BBQ between friends and neighbors turns lives upside down. The story is told from multiple perspectives and through a non linear timeline so the reader is kept off balance for most of the book. Add a setting of an abnormally rainy Australia and the tone is set for Moriarty's newest novel.
I found this book d

I've been hooked on Liane Moriarty's novels since Big Little Lies and was eagerly awaiting her new release. That being said, it didn't capture my attention like her previous novels. Without giving away the surprises, I was disappointed by the plot twists but felt that the story redeemed itself within the final chapters. I truly still enjoy her books, am madly awaiting her next one and I'm guilty of finishing them in a single read. ...more
