What Members Thought

The Widow tells the story of Jean Taylor, the widow of Glenn Taylor who was accused of a terrible crime. Told through 4 (and a bit) narrators, we learn about their life and the crime and how much she knew. Jean's story is told through her first-person perspective and that is the strongest part of the book I thought. Really vivid and well done. A solid debut. This book started out very promising to me, but somewhere in the middle it fell slightly flat. However, I wanted to keep reading and found at times that I couldn't put it down. Read this if you liked "The Girl on the Train" ... or even if you didn't, because it's a little different. I also found myself thinking of "Rebecca," a classic favorite of mine, as I was reading this.

I felt that at times the story lagged and found myself thinking it should be over soon but it wasn't. I did like how the story was told between time and characters and I enjoyed the plot. I think the story could have been told at a faster pace though. I still want to read the authors next book to see if it flows better and quicker.
