As usual, Sarah Dessen excels. I've enjoyed all of her books, and this one is no exception. Though I'm no longer a teenager, I still find myself able to relate to her characters (and usually, I can find different aspects of myself or my high school years within each character, which is fun!). Her cast in Along for the Ride is fully developed, with incredible depth, with their own problems or trauma or something that makes them feel real and accessible. Even the annoying ones -- Belissa, for exam

I knew exactly what the storyline was going to be going into this, which really isn't the problem. I knew that a slightly troubled girl was going to open up to the summer of her life while meeting a slightly troubled boy and falling for him. I have to say, I judged this book by its cover and was surprisingly wrong about everything. It's an amazing story and Dessen writes about some pretty heavy topics tastefully and with compassion. It's not over-the-top in drama, but much of the character development is understated, though packing a pretty satisfying punch in the end. Her writing and messages are so subtle and each sentence makes you dig to a deeper meaning. Love this book, really looking forward to checking out more from Dessen.

One of the best YA books I've read in a long time! Realistic, funny, heartwarming and not over the top! I'll be checking out more from this author for sure!
