As usual, Sarah Dessen excels. I've enjoyed all of her books, and this one is no exception. Though I'm no longer a teenager, I still find myself able to relate to her characters (and usually, I can find different aspects of myself or my high school years within each character, which is fun!). Her cast in Along for the Ride is fully developed, with incredible depth, with their own problems or trauma or something that makes them feel real and accessible. Even the annoying ones -- Belissa, for exam ...more

I knew exactly what the storyline was going to be going into this, which really isn't the problem. I knew that a slightly troubled girl was going to open up to the summer of her life while meeting a slightly troubled boy and falling for him. They would have instant connection, but also conflict and it all is sunshine and roses at the end when they both learn important life lessons and are able to articulate themselves perfectly at the end. Auden is a pretty typical overachiever--she is book- smart, but has missed out on a lot of her childhood because her parents are too wrapped up in their own drama to let her be a child.

And with the help of a handsome stranger deali

I have to say, I judged this book by its cover and was surprisingly wrong about everything. It's an amazing story and Dessen writes about some pretty heavy topics tastefully and with compassion. It's not over-the-top in drama, but much of the character development is understated, though packing a pretty satisfying punch in the end. Her writing and messages are so subtle and each sentence makes you dig to a deeper meaning. Love this book, really looking forward to checking out more from Dessen. ...more

I sucked this right down in one sitting on a Sunday afternoon. This is a great coming of age story set in an idyllic beach town.
