This is my first John Irving book, and I have to say I enjoyed it much more than I expected. I've never seen the movie, although I knew Toby Maguire was in it, so I was going into the story now knowing much about what happened. I have to say it was far more pro-choice, as a stance, than I expected for a book set in the 1940s and 1950s.
