After reading quite a few "cotton candy" books in a row, I decided to pick up The Cider House Rules over Thanksgiving as I've never read anything by Irving. With the baby, I have limited reading time so this tome took me a little over a month to read. Irving's writing is gorgeous, and he is a master of characterization. I feel a deep affection for his characters, even the ones I didn't like through much of the book. I highly recommend this book and plan to read A Prayer for Owen Meany next time

I read this years ago, but it had been quite a long time. What a great book. In typical fashion, the story takes awhile to get where it is going, but the characters are so fun that you don’t care. And every part of the story takes you somewhere, not story line is introduced without a purpose. And an purpose is something very central to this story.
