After reading quite a few "cotton candy" books in a row, I decided to pick up The Cider House Rules over Thanksgiving as I've never read anything by Irving. With the baby, I have limited reading time so this tome took me a little over a month to read. Irving's writing is gorgeous, and he is a master of characterization. I feel a deep affection for his characters, even the ones I didn't like through much of the book. I highly recommend this book and plan to read A Prayer for Owen Meany next time

While this one started off a little slow for me, it was only a matter of time before Irving drew me into the world of Homer Wells. This was truly a large story into a world that is unknown to many. The obvious point of interest in this book is "abortion" and whether or not it is or isn't "God's work."
