i love the concept. not so much the idea of a being without scent, although that's interesting as well, but the story of a character whose sense of smell as his primary sense is brilliant and so nuanced. the trials of grenouille's early life and how he deals with it, what he feels and doesn't feel is fascinating but once the story turned to murder and intrigue I thought the author lost what had been so captivating about this concept.

What a weird story. Strange characters, beautiful writing that made me think so much differently about the world and one compelling central character. It read a bit like Shelley Frankenstein, I don't know quite how to categorize this book since it's not really a thriller or mystery or fantasy but something else altogether.

Interesting concept, but the plot wasn't developed enough to really capture my interest. I kept getting distracted by other books, and it was a struggle to finish.

This one was quite strange, I think I liked it but I'm honestly not sure. I'll have to think on it some more. Beautifully written, well paced and a unique story.
