Let me preface this review by saying that this book was very well written and raised some interesting questions about genetics, family, and free will. That said, it wasn't for me. If you appreciate a creepy, gothic tale, it might be for you.

I just don't know what to think on this one! So bizarre, yet perfectly rational characters with methodical and calm attitudes populate the book. Gantos obviously took a single idea and ran with it to make a small novel for young adults (veryyyy different from another I read of his, Norvelt) which may interest those interested in the macabre. This was a well written book. Gantos draws you in with a story that makes you uncomfortable and understanding at the same time.

I personally find taxidermy gross so I found that portion of the book not my style, but it is so necessary in who the Twins are. Also I was annoyed by the way Ivy's love and concern over losing her mother are twisted. I do not think it is uncommon for a child being raised by a single mother to feel fear over losing her.
