whoa that was epic. tempted to go with the full 5 stars here. a book club pick with so much to discuss! spoilers---would Walter have fallen in love with Lalitha had Patty not had the affair with Richard? (why is "lalitha" so similar to "Lolita"?)
why is Walter so gosh darn good? but is he really? why don't we see more of Jessica? Is it wrong that I kind of like patty?
and the whole overarching theme of freedom (duh?) was rather brilliant throughout. the characters and their situations reminded me ...more

You know those books that end and you don't really know how to feel about it? This is one of those. At different points in the novel I was moved, horrified, bored, laughing, nearly in tears, and times I simply wanted to throw the freaking book against the wall. I don't even know how to describe the story to anyone. At the end of the book, even though I felt emotionally drained and confused, I didn't feel that my time was wasted. Something about the way this book was written made it incredibly easy to read--not that the content was light, but the only way I can think to describe it is that I think the author's thought patterns might be very simliar to how I think. A very relevant book to these modern times with themes touching on overpopulation, becoming overwhelmed by the many choices in life, and the struggle to become yourself.
