The movie was so much better. I absolutely LOVE the concept of this book; it's riveting. After having seen the movie and learning that the author of the book was a woman . . . I couldn't wait to read it. I was sorely disappointed. We know so much more about global warming, environmental effects of genetics, etc., than the author did when she wrote this book. I enjoyed this book, and now really want to see the movie. I was expecting something a little more plot-heavy and a little more fast-paced than this book turned out to be. The book is actually more a quiet contemplation of what would happen if suddenly no more children were born. PD James has a very nice writing style and her characters were interesting and robust. I wasn't all that impressed with this book. The whole concept was an interesting one, but I felt the story lacked some depth and for me there were a few loose ends not tied up. I watched the movie and enjoyed it more, even though it was quite different from the book. On the other hand my husband really enjoyed the book and found it quite fascinating....
