This is the first selection of the year for my teen book discussion group. And believe it or not, I have actually read this before, but picked it up again for a refresher. I am actually on the fence on whether or not I “like” this book. It is interesting, clever, smart, full of interesting characters and is probably a good book for young women to read. I wouldn't call it the most frightening book ever (as the NY Times review on the cover states) but I definitely loved the creepiness of this book. The detailed descriptions and pace of the book really made it feel like I was watching it all unfold in my mind. It was a quick, quirky, captivating read. I really loved this book -- and it was much, much better than the film, as books usually are. Creepy, macabre, yet still a kid's book in many ways. Coraline is obviously a brief read, but worth it if you want some youthful creepiness.
