When Coraline came out in the movie theaters this year I could not wait to see it. I had not heard of Neil Gaiman at the time and as a result, the movie was a pleasant surprise to me.
As a fan of movies such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride I knew upon seeing the preview for Coraline that this would be a story I would love, and it did not disappoint.

Popsugar 2019 Reading Challenge: A book you see someone reading on TV or in a movie.
In this case, it was the book Chloe was reading to her daughter in Season 2 of Lucifer.
This is the second time I've encountered a Neil Gaiman book I've thought worked better as a movie (the first was Stardust, which is a seriously underrated fantasy movie). This book was creepy even as a middle grade novel. The premise centers on Coraline, who maybe does not quite appreciate her quirky, inattentive parents and her current life so much, and so upon finding a permanently-locked door in her own house, conspires to unlock it and explore. What she finds on the other side...let's not spoil it.
