Essential reading
I had difficulty putting this down, but also had to because it was too overwhelming to continue at some points. It's a very personal, compelling look at the US, but reading it also constantly feels like you're being punched in the stomach (and I imagine it's like this for readers of various backgrounds, but for different reasons). Required reading, especially for USAmericans.

I don't think I can really articulate what I thought about while reading (or listening in my case to the audiobook) this book, but suffice it to say that it made me want to be a better human. To think more deeply, to analyze my own thoughts and behaviors, and to look at society and culture and our issues in a deeply personal way to provoke change. Any book that does all that deserves 5*.
