The prompt was "A book about a difficult subject." Death is certainly that, and yet it is one we all have to deal with. We have developed ways to cope with the deaths of loved ones, ways of thinking about the deaths of strangers by senseless violence or natural disaster. Paul Kalanithi was an up and coming neurosurgery resident when, at 36 years old, he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. This is his autobiography, covering his upbringing, college years where he studied both Literature and Neuroscience before deciding to become a neurosurgeon, through to his diagnosis and eventual death 22 months later.

Ugh this book made me cry big tears. I’ve had it for a long time and knew I wasn’t emotionally ready to read until now. This book can definitely be a trigger book if dealing with death.
