What's not to love? A very refreshing take on dragons. I absolutely loved Laurence floundering outside the Navy and polite society, bless him, and then kicking ass when people were disrespectful even by aviator standards. Temeraire not understanding all the rules then finally getting the point of duty to one's country was lovely. Looking forward to picking up the next one!

It's not easy to choose an audiobook that my whole family wants to listen to:
--Husband, who rarely reads anything less than 100 years old
--Me, an easy date since I read everything
--A 12 year old boy, who wants action, fantasy, and a reasonably plot-driven narrative
--A 9 year old girl, who doesn't want too much action and cares a lot about characters and their inner feelings

Great action sequences, a good story of friendship with some great alternative history thrown in.

In this world, the English and the French have an Air Force consisting of different breeds of dragons. I love dragon stories and my friend Fong highly recommended this book so I just had to read it. It feels like peak nerd to be reading a book about the Napoleonic wars BUT WITH DRAGONS. A feel-good regency fantasy (alternate history?) with uptight naval captains, independent women, feisty intelligent dragons... And Napoleon.
