I don't think I'd be overstating to say that I loved this book. There's a blurb from Time on the back cover that compared this story to "Jane Austen playing Dungeons and Dragons with Eragon's Christopher Paolini", and I don't think it's that far off. I love reading books set in the Regency and Napoleonic war eras. I love dragons and historical fantasy. I don't know what I expected when I picked this up, but it certainly wasn't what I got! I was unsure when I started because the writing is very formal (like Laurence himself), but by the time the dragon hatched and started talking, I was in!
