Lin-Manuel Miranda read this book while on vacation and was inspired to create an amazing hip-hop musical about this brilliant, outspoken, and controversial founding father.

Alexander Hamilton was born in the Caribbean. His mother, forbidden to remarry after getting a divorce was her abusive husband, had two children with a Scottish man who later abandoned her and his two sons. After his mother died of a fever, Alexander hopped on a ship to New York, determined to make his fortune.

4.5 stars. This is a fascinating history of not only Hamilton but many of the Founding Fathers. I loved the way it was written as it reads like a novel. It was interesting to learn how influential Hamilton’s ideas were and still are. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is holy mercy it’s LONG. Also, side note Scott Brick reads the audio book and does an amazing job. Social Studies B.C.

Yes, this took me most of the year to read. I would listen to some between reading other audiobooks. And it’s long. Not the longest book I’ve read, by far, but it is still long. Great narration of an interesting era and person.
