Well, I'm not the last person to read this book, but I felt like I was. And now I've read it. And I kind of wish I hadn't. I admire the author's creativity, the plot so compelling (although predictable in places--Desi, for ex.), and the characterization of the 2 protagonists. A stunning achievement. Sweet Jeebus thank God that's finally over. I didn't think I'd ever get to the end. It was so incredibly BORING. Even when I finally got to the infamous "omg" moment it still wasn't enough to save the book. This book was an intense read, but the main characters were hateful and the ending was creepy. Also, the narrative voices were way too similar. Still, a good mystery and interesting story...just too vulgar for my liking. The author needs to take a page from Ayn Rand about poisonous love!

I'm not sure why it took me ten years to get to this once wildly popular thriller. The pacing of this book is nearly perfect. At just the point when the reader is feeling like the story makes sense, it takes a turn. I really liked the examination of the psychological side of these characters and the depth of their crazy was explored. Overall, the book is pretty far-fetched, but it was impossible to put down and I listened to the whole book over the course of two days.

I loved this book right up until the end when I wanted to throw it across the room. However, after stewing with it a while, I decided I still loved it for making me have such a strong reaction to it. There were enough plot twists to keep me guessing, even though I had certain things figured out before I read them.

I would recommend the book, but without giving away spoilers, be prepared to scream, "WHAT THE F*CK!" when you're done. ...more
