I can't believe I've waited for so long to read this book. Sam Mauro said I would like it, and he is so right. Not sure about asking every sixth grader to read it. But I can imagine reading it with some kids in a book club. The writing style is wonderful and surprising and while the topic is grim the way the book unfolds helps me to deal with the awful subject. It's masterful.

As much as I cringed (and still do) at the subject matter of this book, which is narrated by Death and follows the life of a young girl in Nazi Germany, I thought it was amazing. Sad and sweet
This book was nothing like I expected it to be. It took a chapter or so to get into, but it was well worth the work. It's a beautiful tragic story and I'm so glad I read it. ...more
