I'm so enjoying each installment of this series. In this particular novel, I was more intrigued by the subplot about Gamache than the actual mystery, but both were compelling. As always, the residents of Three Pines and Gamache's team are a joy to visit with.

I haven't been this hooked on a series since Harry Potter! And the audio version totally transports me to Armand Gamache's world which is so seemingly perfect on its surface until a murder occurs, requiring him to venture into the hidden rooms of his various suspect's souls. It took me a while to overcome the negative feelings many of the characters evoked for me. I loved the first two books so much that I had really high expectations for this book, and I was disappointed at the bitterness and nastiness that even some of the characters I liked evidenced. Eventually though I warmed to the story and became sympathetic to many of the characters.
